How cerasonar panels work

The construction of the cerasonar DML panels is very special, altough this is a technique that has been already known since the 1930s. Unlike conventional speakers, the surface of the cerasonar flat panels does not move like a piston, but vibrates microscopically throughout the entire surface with a maximal excursion of only 0,3 mm (Distributed Mode Loudspeaker). Imagine the panel would consist of thousands of tiny acoustic drivers being occupied in reproducing every single musical note evenly spread all over the panel. Compared to cone speakers cerasonar DML panels radiate the complete frequency range both horizontally and vertically almost evenly with an angle greater than 170°. Since the sound pressure does not decrease with distance as with conventional speaker systems, the even sound distribution throughout the audible range offers a truly unique stereo experience.

The foundation

The cerasonar invisible speakers are built in accordance to the benefits of good speaker diaphragms. Our founder, Ulrich Ranke, has brought the design factor of the patented ETON Hexacone diaphragm (made in the 80s) to the development of the cerasonar panels, using a very stiff, lightweight yet well damped sound surface.
Completely without crossover components, the cerasonar speakers achieve a very balanced sound range. This is particularly noticeable in the case of more complex musical material, such as classical music or rock, but also overall through a natural sound reproduction.

Our proprietary technology

By mid of 2006 we started to design the cerasonar Exciter, the motor system as well as a powerful panel model. In 2010 we released our XT 5500 FF37 Exciter  and filled a patent application for the “MCC” system (Mode Control Correction). This special technology ensures a natural sound due to proper damping of mode interferences. A great step to assure premium sound quality
